Oral Medicine & Radiology
OVERVIEW:
Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology is unique in that it combines Oral Medicine and Radiology. It sits at the interface between dentistry and medicine. Mouth is a mirror of systemic disease and it is the oral medicine specialist who addresses these situations where a systemic disease is connected with typical oral manifestations. It is the first department visited by patient and diagnosed for the illness and routed to the other essential departments for the auxiliary management.
The Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology has begun its academic excellence for undergraduates ever since the inception of SVS Institute of Dental Sciences way back in the year 2003.Adding to that, post-graduate studies in the speciality was started in the year 2009.
The Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology at SVS Institute of Dental Sciences works diligently to attain global standards in education, research and public service. The department edifies both the graduate and post graduate students in the diagnosis and medical management of oro-facial disorders like facial pain, temporomandibular disorders, salivary gland pathologies, oro-mucosal lesions, oral cancer and precancer.
The Department of Radiology goes hand in hand with Oral Medicine providing facilities for all intra and extra oral radiographic investigations with digital compatibility. The digital workflow with RVG, Panoramic and cephalometric units will further nurture the students in the process of acquiring knowledge.
To further enrich the academic heights, the department also has 3D imaging in the form of CBCT. This not only changed the fate of diagnosis and treatment plan but also increased the scope of research activity there by strengthening the standards of post graduate education.
VISION:
To train students in the field of Oral Medicine and Radiology and to ensure a high level of competence in both general and special area of interest in the specialty and prepare him/her for a career in specialty practice, research and didactic skills with primary emphasis on patient management skills and high ethical standards.
MISSION:
✔ To ensure global wellbeing of the patient through early detection and effective management of oral and maxillofacial disease.
✔ To acquire theoretical, clinical a nd practical knowledge of all oral and orofacial diseases, alongside the diagnostic procedures pertaining to them.
✔ To establish referrals and coordination with various specialities to develop a multi-disciplinary approach in challenging cases.
✔ To enhance research skill in the handling of a scientific problem.
✔ To materialise sustenance and uphold academic merit through evidence based practice.
