Conseravative Dentistry and Endodontics
Conservative Dentistry is a branch of dentistry which is concerned with conservation of teeth. The aim of this specialty is to prevent the disease, conserve what is remaining and treat/ repair the diseased portions of the tooth. Conservative Dentistry consists of sub specialties of Cariology, Operative dentistry, Cosmetic Dentistry and Endodontics. Here diseased or fractured teeth are restored with restorative materials that are functional, biologically acceptable and esthetically pleasing.
Department of Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics at SVSIDS Mahabubnagar has been functioning since 2003. The department has state of the art equipment which includes surgical operating microscopes, Magnification loupes, digital radiography, apex locators, thermoplastisized G.P system, thermo catalytic bleaching unit, gear reduction hand-piece.
A fully installed ceramic unit and restorative Dental Laboratory capable of doing specialized laboratory work that helps postgraduate students to deliver a comprehensive treatment.
The educational goals of the under graduate program are to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to achieve competency in prevention, diagnosis and management of caries, wasting diseases, and its sequelae. This journey of learning in the department starts from the second year of the under graduate program and is achieved by offering the student an integrated experience in didactics, preclinical exercises and patient care with an emphasis on differential diagnosis, emergency care and interdisciplinary treatment using the latest dental restorative materials and technology.
The goal of the postgraduate program is to train students who can practice the specialty of Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics and teach the discipline. The candidates receive extensive clinical and biomedical education together with experience in teaching and research. The curriculum includes restorative, esthetic and adhesive dentistry, vital pulp therapy, nonsurgical root canal therapy, endodontic retreatment, surgical root canal therapy, micro Endodontics, tooth bleaching, direct/ indirect veneers, post-core restorations, management of dental trauma, etc.. with the utilization of digital radiography, operating microscopes and various biomaterials.
