Orthodontics & Dentofacial Orthopedics

The speciality of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopaedics has a unique distinction of being dentistry’s first and most sought after speciality. An Orthodontist can ably deal with various dentofacial deformities and positively influence the growth and development of face in general and jaws in particular.
The Department of Orthodontics & Dentofacial Orthopaedics at SVSIDS Mahbubnagar, known for its best in class infrastructure and faculty profile, was established in 2003 and offers undergraduate as well as postgraduate courses. It is well equipped with Postgraduate and Undergraduate clinical Section, Post Graduate students’ room and Faculty room, Dry and Wet lab, Patient record section, Audio Visual seminar hall, Computer work station and Clinical photography room. The Department library is a power house of knowledge and has the latest books, PG thesis, seminars and educational DVD’s.

The department, with its state of art technology and dedicated staff, treats an average of 650 new cases annually and constantly strives to uphold the institution through excellence in academic activities, research and patient care. The primary mission is to enhance dentofacial esthetics and functioning, endowing self-esteem and overall health to the patients.

The undergraduate teaching programme is directed towards providing the student with the knowledge necessary to diagnose a malocclusion and provide minor orthodontic care within the scope of removable appliances and coordinate with specialist for comprehensive care of the patient.

The post graduate programme was commenced in the year 2009 and includes six months of pre-clinical work followed by two and a half years of clinical training. The students are trained to follow evidence based orthodontics and provide comprehensive orthodontic therapy which includes growth modulation, removable appliances, labial and lingual fixed appliance treatments, surgical orthodontics, micro implant assisted orthodontics, clear aligner therapy, cleft and craniofacial care and management of TMD’s. As a part of overall development, the post graduates are encouraged to actively take part in various research activities, attend various conferences and workshops and also publish their research work in journals of national and international repute. The students are well versed in usage of various softwares like Dolphin, Exocad and Dentium rainbow to maintain a digital work flow.
