PEDIATRIC AND PREVENTIVE DENTISTRY

The Department of Pediatric and Preventive Dentistry was started in the year 2003 for undergraduate students and post graduate training was initiated in the year 2009 with intake of 5 students per year and is recognized by Dental Council of India.Specialty of Pediatric and Preventive Dentistry focuses on providing quality and standard preventive, comprehensive and therapeutic treatment to children with dental problems including those with special health care needs. Department has separate undergraduate and post graduate sections with child friendly reception area and well equipped pediatric dental setup.

The department facilitates provision for dental care under sedation and general anesthesia for extremely uncooperative children. Department intends to set a foreground for early identification of risk factors, evaluation of oral development, fluoride therapy, endodontic procedures on primary and young permanent teeth, full mouth rehabilitation, management of oral habits, prevention and interception of malocclusion, prevention of oral injuries, enhancing esthetic appearance in children and modification of dietary and oral hygiene practices, dental care for special children and timely dental intervention. Undergraduates are trained to develop necessary clinical skills for providing basic dental care to children with emphasis on preventive dental care.

Post graduates are trained in all aspects of advanced pediatric dentistry including care of very young children and special children.Department aims to reduce the number of new cavity formations with a vision to provide good oral health to children of all ages. The department has been conducting numerous oral health care camps in private and government institutions as well as for those with special heath care needs children. The mission forward is to have a caries free mouth in children and best possible oral health.
